The Gateway Theatre

World Premiere

Mark Nadler, the man with the pulse of the keys and the voice of heaven is back for an evening of queer fun and mayhem. This time Mark will be performing an entire musical — playing all the roles. Every word of dialogue is by Moss Hart and every lyric is by Larry Hart. This is the show that lyricist Lorenz Hart and playwright Moss Hart would have written had they not been in the closet that the 1930’s and ‘40’s demanded.

The Scottish Play*

By William Shakespeare

May 28–30, 2022
Salesforce Park
425 Mission St., SF

In the wake of KING LEAR and TIMON, it’s our latest Shakespeare in the Park! Travel the wilds of Downtown’s gorgeous new Salesforce Park, in this unique ambulatory production. Your Medieval Scottish hosts are the villainous royal couple and a gaggle of Ghosts and Specters. A creepy adventure updated to the present.

*It’s very bad luck in the theatre to say the name of this play, but here are some hints: one of the greats, set in Scotland, Lady M is the prime villain (think Mommie Dearest with no kids), and there’s tons of violence and sorcery.

How we chose the plays:

These plays scored in the upper tier of our Play Selection Committee’s recommendations. This committee was formed of twelve local theatre artists who represent a broad range of voices, identities, and perspectives. This committee recommendation process was instituted to bring greater equity and diversity to the play selection process at Theatre Rhinoceros. It is the first step in a larger initiative at The Rhino.
